This program, organized by M/s Rishikesh Natural Fiber Handicrafts Producer Company Limited and sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, aims to empower artisans and entrepreneurs working in the handicrafts sector, with a special focus on promoting the natural fiber handicrafts of Uttarakhand. The core objective is to provide artisans with the essential business skills needed to achieve success in the global market. The program is being held at the Swami Purnanand Degree College of Technical Education, Kailash Gate, Muni Ki Reti, Rishikesh, Uttarakhand тАУ 249137.
This initiative is a part of the National Handicraft Development Programme (NHDP) and is designed to benefit 20 artisans in each program, focusing on Bhimal Craft (Natural Fibre) in the areas covered by the Producer Company (Rishikesh, Dehradun district, Uttarakhand). Rishikesh, December 4, 2025: Today marked the second day of the three-day Craft Demonstration-cum-Awareness Programme held at Swami Purnanand Degree College, Rishikesh. The event is dedicated to the preservation, promotion of traditional handicrafts, and the empowerment of students and artisans.
The programme, sponsored by the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, and organized by M/s Rishikesh Natural Fiber Handicrafts Producer Company Limited, focused on showcasing handicraft demonstrations while also highlighting cultural well-being through Yoga, a core identity of Rishikesh.
Addresses by Dignitaries : Distinguished guests addressed and guided the students and artisans:
Shri Ratan Kumar Srivastava, Director, Swami Purnanand Degree College, Rishikesh: Shri Srivastava emphasized the importance of encouragement and support in promoting sustainable entrepreneurship. He stated that such programmes play a vital role in preserving and promoting traditional handicrafts, ensuring that age-old craftsmanship skills are not only secured but also adapted to contemporary markets. He also stressed the need for community participation, policy support, and innovative business models.
Shri S.S. Negi, Former Assistant Director, DIC, Dehradun: Shri Negi highlighted the necessity of sustainable entrepreneurship in the conservation and promotion of traditional handicrafts.
Interactive Sessions and Resource Persons. A key highlight of todayтАЩs event was the interactive session with industry experts/resource persons, where students had the opportunity to learn directly from field veterans.

They emphasized that such initiatives are crucial in not only preserving age-old craftsmanship skills but also in adapting them to meet contemporary market needs.
