Interactive Sessions and Resource Persons
A key highlight of today's program was the interactive session held with industry experts/resource persons, where students had the opportunity to learn directly from leaders in the field.
All the resource persons collectively educated the college students on the intricacies of handicrafts, market demands, and entrepreneurial opportunities. They emphasized that initiatives like this are crucial not only for preserving centuries-old craftsmanship skills but also for adapting them to the needs of the contemporary market. The event, organized by the Rishikesh Natural Fiber Handicraft Producer Company (associated with the Bharatiya Gramotthan Sanstha), was inaugurated on Wednesday by Chief Guest Banshidhar Tiwari, Director General (Information), Government of Uttarakhand.
On the first day, twenty stalls displaying various products created by local women were set up. DG Information, Banshidhar Tiwari, inspected all the stalls. Anil Chandola informed him that the primary objective of the program was to raise awareness about handicraft skills among local youth and students.
The primary objective is to raise awareness about the richness of Indian handicrafts, encompassing their deep-rooted traditions, culture, and heritage. This effort involves demonstrating the live craft-making process to the general public and students, which in turn helps to foster interest and increase the propensity to purchase handcrafted products among consumers. Furthermore, a crucial goal is to assist artisans in establishing vital business networks to support and grow their enterprises.
