Successfully Achievement

These initiatives were part of the company’s broader mission to uplift and empower traditional artisans, particularly women artisans engaged in the natural fibre handicrafts sector. The focus was placed on skill enhancement, entrepreneurship development, design innovation, and market readiness. Through carefully planned and executed programmes, artisans were equipped with the knowledge, tools, and confidence required to thrive in an evolving and competitive handicrafts industry. This year’s initiatives were aimed at empowering artisans, preserving traditional craft skills, and enhancing market linkages for sustainable livelihoods. Key highlights of the programme included the successful organization of a Handicraft Exhibition, which provided artisans with a platform to showcase and sell their unique creations, directly engaging with buyers and craft enthusiasts. The company also conducted two Entrepreneur Development Programmes (EDPs), each lasting six days, focusing on financial literacy, business planning, and marketing skills essential for artisan entrepreneurs.

Key achievements from the 2024-25 initiatives include:

  • Hands-on training sessions on product design and development
  • Seminars on entrepreneurship, quality control, and sustainable production
  • Skill development workshops focused on fibres such as Bhimlal, Kandali, jute, hemp fibre
  • Enhanced market linkage strategies for local and national exposure
  • Active participation of women artisans, leading to increased self-reliance and economic independence

These programs were conducted with the technical support and strategic guidance of the Office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), ensuring alignment with national standards and priorities. The NHDP’s support was instrumental in facilitating access to expert trainers, modern tools, and professional mentoring, all of which contributed to the tangible growth of artisan capabilities.

Furthermore, a 25-day Design and Technical Development Workshop was conducted, where artisans received hands-on training from master designers and industry experts. This initiative significantly contributed to the modernization of traditional designs while respecting the cultural heritage of natural fibre crafts. To support the artisans' post-training productivity, 50 toolkits were distributed among the participants, enabling them to immediately apply the skills acquired and improve the quality of their work. These initiatives have played a vital role in strengthening the artisan community in and around Rishikesh by enhancing their creative capacity, product innovation, and market-readiness. The company remains committed to continuing its efforts in craft promotion, artisan upliftment, and sustainable development through such impactful programmes.
