#25 दिवसीय कार्यशाला

On 22nd November 2021, a 25-day comprehensive training program focusing on the development of handicraft products using Bhimal (locally known as Shailu) fiber was inaugurated at Gumaniwala, Shyampur, situated on the Haridwar–Rishikesh Bypass Road. The training program has been initiated by Rishikesh Natural Fiber Handicrafts Producer Company Ltd., with the support of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, under its ongoing mission to promote traditional crafts and skill development across rural India.

  • Company in-charge & Director Mr. Anil Chandola informed that during the workshop, women participants will receive training in key skills such as Bhimal braid-making, design development, stitching, and weaving. He emphasized that this initiative is a significant step towards empowering women and promoting self-reliance through skill enhancement in natural fiber-based handicrafts.
  • The inaugural ceremony witnessed the participation of key representatives from local industry bodies, self-help groups, and community development organizations. The training is designed to benefit women artisans by providing them with structured, hands-on learning sessions that encompass various stages of Bhimal-based product manufacturing. Core areas of training include Bhimal braid-making, design development, hand-stitching techniques, and traditional weaving methods—all aimed at enhancing the artisans’ technical capabilities and product innovation skills.
  • Bhimal, a locally available natural fiber found in the Himalayan region, holds immense potential in the handicrafts and eco-friendly product segment due to its durability, sustainability, and aesthetic appeal. Through this initiative, the Rishikesh Natural Fiber Handicrafts Producer Company seeks not only to revive and modernize the use of Bhimal fiber but also to create meaningful livelihood opportunities for women, especially in rural and semi-urban communities.

Highlights and Achievements

This initiative represents a significant step toward women’s economic empowerment, promotion of traditional knowledge systems, and development of local cottage industries. By providing skill development and capacity-building support, the program aims to prepare these artisans for wider market access, entrepreneurship, and cluster-based production systems. Furthermore, the training program aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision of “Atmanirbhar Bharat” (Self-Reliant India) by encouraging sustainable rural livelihoods, women-led enterprises, and inclusive economic growth. Upon completion of the training, participants are expected to be better equipped to engage in independent production, form collectives or self-help groups, and explore avenues such as exhibitions, digital marketplaces, and export opportunities.

This collaborative endeavor underscores the transformative power of grassroots-level skill development and reaffirms the commitment of the Ministry of Textiles and local producer companies in nurturing traditional crafts while fostering economic resilience among underprivileged communities.
